Letter from our Director of Golf
Thank you for visiting Crondon Park Golf Club.
Over the last few years, Crondon has undergone one of the most significant transformations of any golf club in Essex, and I wanted to take the opportunity to share our story.
For many years, Crondon has been recognised as one of the finest golf course layouts in the county. Golfers loved the design, the challenge, and the potential, but there were aspects of the course that didn’t always match the quality of the layout.
Rather than accepting that, we made the decision to invest in the future.
Following an investment of more than £3 million, we have transformed the golf course from the ground up. We’ve installed over 35 miles of drainage, completely redesigned and rebuilt every bunker on the course, introduced a full fairway irrigation system, and completed the largest infrastructure improvements in the club’s history. Those projects are now behind us.
Our attention has turned to what matters most, producing exceptional playing conditions, every single day of the year.
To help us achieve that ambition, we appointed our new Course Manager, formerly Head Greenkeeper at the current number one-ranked golf course in Essex. Together with our greenkeeping team, he is leading the next phase of our journey: establishing Crondon as one of the best-conditioned golf courses in the county. Three years ago, we were a construction site. Today, we are delivering the golf course we always knew Crondon could become.
That progress hasn’t gone unnoticed. We were proud to become the first club in Essex to host both the Ladies’ and Men’s County Championships in the same year. We’ve also hosted the Crondon Classic, a Tier 1 event on the Clutch Pro Tour, and will host the Essex PGA Championship, along with Ladies’ County Week in 2027.
These events are awarded to clubs that demonstrate quality, consistency, and professionalism, and we’re incredibly proud that governing bodies now see Crondon as a venue worthy of showcasing the very best golf in Essex.
But great golf courses don’t create great golf clubs. People do.
Alongside our investment in the course, we’ve worked just as hard to improve the member experience. We have modernised our membership structure, introduced a fairer tee booking system and created a club culture centred around respect, inclusivity, and community.
Some of those decisions were difficult, but they were necessary to build the club we wanted for the future. Today, membership is growing faster than ever before, and we are approaching the point where a waiting list will become a reality.
As we continue to grow, our focus isn’t simply on increasing membership numbers. Our priority is welcoming golfers who want to contribute to the culture we’ve worked so hard to create, members who value great golf, respect others and want to be part of a thriving, friendly club.
So perhaps the most important question isn’t whether Crondon is the right club for you. It’s whether you’re the right member for Crondon.
